Twins Having Different Fathers

Do you know that twins can have different fathers? Well, yes it is possible. I didn’t know about this until today.

While I was watching the new ABS-CBN teleserye, Prinsesa ng Banyera, it occurred to me that the twins involved in the story don’t really look alike. I know that there are identical twins which look ,if not exactly, almost alike while fraternal twins are no more alike than any brother or sister. Thus, I could classify the twins in the teleserye as fraternal twins. One crazy thought came to my mind whether it is possible to have twins with different fathers.

I searched for it on the Internet and I found the answer to my question.

According to the DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC), a leading testing company in the United States, there are rare cases of twins with different fathers which are more frequently revealed by DNA paternity testing. This happens when a woman ovulates and releases two eggs and these eggs are exposed to sperms from two men. It is possible for her to have fraternal twins or even triplets with different fathers when she releases three eggs during her ovulation period. This is called heteropaternal superfecundation.

During ovulation, the egg becomes conceivable within 12-48 hours before it dies while the sperm cells can stay alive from 4-5 days. Thus, a woman remains fertile within 5-7 days.

So, if you’re the father of fraternal twins, would you think again and ask if these twins are really yours, with the possibility of fraternal twins having different fathers?

The Secret Diary of Bill Gates

I’m sure that all of you have already seen Fake Steve Ballmer’s pictures of FCEOW 07, and were wondering where “Where’s Fake Bill?” The truth is, I wasn’t in any of the pictures on Fake Steve’s blog. In order to keep my Secret Identity secret, I showed up in a Darth Vader costume. Steve Ballmer also was worried about revealing his secret identity, so he showed up as Darth Maul. Here’s some pictures:

Darth Vader and Darth Maul
Thats me on the right and thats Steve on the left.

Darth Vader
Me again!

Darth outside

That me, Fake Ballmer (after he took off his costume), and a random security guard.

As you can see, I had a great time. At one point, the real George W. Bush even showed up. (He got confused and thought that he was fake George W.B.) I have to convince Fake Ballmer to throw these conferences more often.

The only problem was that some people mistakenly thought that I was Fake Vader. They didn’t seem to understand that I was Fake Bill with the Fake secret identity of Fake Vader! Perhaps it was for the best anyway, because all of my Fake Stormtroopers were elsewhere, and I don’t think that I would have been able to deal with all of the fans myself.

About halfway through the party, I showed off a magic trick (where I used the “force”) and Fake Ballmer (still dressed up as Fake Darth Maul) got pissed that I was getting all the attention. He ripped off his costume, threw a few chairs, screamed “Developers!”, stormed away, and got drunk. He later got kicked out of his own party by the security guards who thought that he was Fake Fake Steve Ballmer. You can see him without his costume in the last picture above. He’s the dude on the left.

Are you a chocolate lover? Then you would also probably get in love with the 1,268 chocolate hills as you witness them from the 214 step-observation hill at Carmen, Bohol, Philippines during a dry and sunny season.

The Chocolate Hills look like brown humps during sunny days which turn into a lush green grassland during the wet season. Some claim that they also look like scattered moles and even women’s breasts with about the same size ranging from 30 to 50 meters high. This almost perfect and spectacular tourist spot has been thought to be intentionally made by human. Later on scientists figured out that these hills were eroded formations of a type of marine limestone that is above the hardened clay. Geologists said that these were all due to the weather during millions of years. Beliefs on legends also arose. People perceived that the chocolate hills were accidentally formed by two giants who fought and started messing up the island by throwing soils to each other but they do end up being friends. The other was when a giant named Arogo cried heavily when the mortal woman, Aloya, he fell in love with died thus his huge teardrops created the lumps.

The Chocolate Hills were considered as one of the major economic and tourism booster not only in Bohol but the whole country as well. Its majestic scenery has captured the hearts of many Filipinos and foreigners. It has been included in the Philippine Tourism Authority’s list of tourist destinations and has been declared as the 3rd National Geological Monument in the Philippines. A proposition is being done in order to include the chocolate hills to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The local government of Carmen, Bohol is also doing actions to maintain the beauty of the area by disallowing mining and quarrying around the vicinity. Yet, no matter how overwhelmed people get from the easy income generating method through tourism in the country, people should never took it for granted. Instead people should develop ways to further protect it make it last for another million year.

Samsung's dual-SIM DuoS D880

Dual-SIM handsets are a completely foreign concept in these parts, but in parts of Asia, they're a fairly common sight (three SIMs, though -- that's another story). Samsung's contributing its "DuoS" D880 slider to the fray, offering the capability to rock two SIMs from the same carrier or different carriers and switch seamlessly between the two for voice, data, and text functions. Sadly, the handset tops out at EDGE, though the other specs aren't half bad -- 3.2 megapixel cam, FM radio, stereo Bluetooth, et cetera -- and it looks alright, too. Look for it around a hefty $700 next month.

Renault teams up with Nokia for Twingo Nokia special edition

How appropriate that a car not much bigger than a cellphone (okay, that's an exaggeration, but this thing's pretty tiny) would get slapped with Nokia branding, right? Sadly, the integration between the automotive and cellular worlds isn't particularly tight here; Renault hooks up proud new owners of Twingo Nokia special editions with Nokia 6110 Navigators -- perfect for use with the integrated Bluetooth -- but that's about it. There's some sort of "Nokia tech-themed" decal stuck on the Twingo's B-pillar, too, but we're pretty sure that thing would have to get removed right quick if we found ourselves with one of these in the garage. Sorry, Nokia; don't get us wrong, we're happy to take a 6110 off your hands, but no free advertising for you. Especially when it doesn't look badass.

Sony Ericsson announces W580i -- again

Maybe your PR peeps aren't on the ball, guys, but seriously -- stop trying to confuse us by announcing products that have been out for weeks. Sony Ericsson has, for some reason, (re)announced the W580i today following an original announcement way back in March and launches on Rogers and AT&T in August. Features are the same as they were the first time around: quadband GSM plus EDGE, Shake Control, 2 megapixel camera, A2DP, integrated FM radio, and availability in black, gray, and white. Look, if you don't have anything new to tell us about, that's cool! Just chill out until you do, k?

Nokia N95-3 with North American 3G now available

With nary an AT&T agreement in sight, Nokia has gone out on a limb to launch the unlocked N95-3 today, bringing the all the original N95's goodness back for a second round with a few key changes. Most notably, of course, is the presence of HSDPA on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, but other modifications include a higher-capacity battery, recessed camera lens (sans protective shutter this time around), twice the RAM, and availability in black and "dark sand" (for the rear only -- the front's always silver). Grab it starting today in Nokia's flagship stores in New York and Chicago for $699.
